WALA Heilmittel, GmbH, (Germany) was founded in 1935 by Dr. Rudolf Hauschka. In the late 1920’s, Dr. Hauschka began systematic research for stable aqueous plant extracts without alcohol or preservatives. He sought methods in harmony with the plants as living organisms, and which preserved or even improved their therapeutic effects. An underlying foundation was the extended understanding of nature and medicine based on the science of Anthroposophy. The culmination of his research is the official Aqueous Tincture production Methods 33-37 in the German Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia, which has been adopted as Class P in the HPUS/RS.

The processes used by WALA are based on the manifold rhythms in nature. Plants, grown biodynamically in our own gardens or wild-crafted, are harvested at the optimal phase of growth to maximize the therapeutic activity inherent in the desired plant part. Harvested at sunrise, the extraction proceeds over 7 days, with exposure of the macerate to diurnal rhythms of warmth/cold, light/darkness and stillness/movement. All work is done by hand allowing optimal organoleptic inspection. Following the extraction, repeated testing indicate when the tincture is stable and ready for further processing, for example, by homeopathic potentization With over 200 plants and more than 400 other starting materials, the individual characteristics of the tinctures and solutions are checked and controlled by a Quality Assurance department staffed by over 45 chemists, microbiologists and technicians.

The homeopathic potentization process, used for the vast majority of the 1200 preparations in the WALA range, is done entirely by hand, based on the vortex form which appears whenever fluids come into movement in nature. The finished attenuations are prepared as coated pellets, solutions for injection/oral use, and medicated creams, ointments and suppositories.

WALA also manufactures Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics — holistic body care products based on the same principles as the remedies and using the finest natural ingredients. Over 650 people are active in the parent company in Germany to manufacture and supply these hand-crafted products to over 30 countries around the world. Subsidiary/satellite production facilities are also located in Australia, the Republic of South Africa, and Italy.
